Helping Children
Canadian country pop singer Shania Twain will be behind the microphone in The Current's studio tomorrow morning as a special Friday Host of The Current. If you have followed her career -- and how could you not -- you probably know how she went from a small-town girl in Northern Ontario to an international superstar and how she helped reinvent country music along the way. You might even know that her third album, "Come on Over", is the best-selling album in the history of country music by a female musician of all time.
But there is another side to Shania Twain, one you are probably less familiar with. That's the side that really struck Anna Maria when she met her last fall. It became clear that she has a deep empathy for underprivileged kids who -- all too often -- fall through the cracks ... a fate she says she narrowly escaped herself.
Shania Twain's passion for helping kids in need has prompted her to start a charity called Shania Kids Can. She'll be exploring the issues affecting underprivileged children when she hosts The Current tomorrow. But this morning, Shania Twain was our guest. And it was a pleasure to have her here.
