Forget J Lo. "American Idol" wants Shania Twain most of all.

The Canadian country superstar is the celebrity musician that "Idol" producers always have wanted most as their next judge, QMI Agency has learned.

A day after it was reported that Jennifer Lopez was dropped from consideration because her demands "got out of hand," and on the day reports claimed Twain was the program's "Plan B" after Lopez, a source told QMI Agency on Thursday that the Timmins, Ont., native is the frontrunner now, and always has been.

Judges Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres quit at the end of Season 9, during which Twain was a hit as guest judge and mentor.

"The "American Idol" producers were overwhelmingly pleased with Shania's guest spot as judge," the source says. "They have been keen to have her back full-time."
