• 9/2/10 No "Idol" For Shania. After weeks of speculation, Shania will NOT be joining "American Idol" next season as a judge. NYmag.com is reporting: "Better luck next time, Shania Twain: TMZ says Jennifer Lopez is "in the final stages of negotiations" to join Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson at the "American Idol" judges' table. Earlier reports said she'd priced herself out by demanding $20 million per year, but TMZ's sources say "there has been no drama and no diva demands … It's been typical negotiating." A signed deal is expected sometime next week. Oh well."

• 6/7/10 Shania #14 - Top 25 Country Artists. Billboard recently combed the Hot Country Songs and Top Country Albums charts to rank the top 25 country artists of the last 25 years (1985-2010). George Strait is ranked #1. Shania is ranked #14. Though absent from Country Songs since 2005, Twain remains the best-selling female country album artist since Nielsen's SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991, having sold 33.9 million albums in that span. Her lasting pop culture prominence was reaffirmed when she served as a mentor this past season on "American Idol"; following the April 27 and 28 episodes, Twain's "Greatest Hits" soared back onto the Billboard 200. "It was emotional for me to listen to every one of their gorgeous voices singing my words," Twain blogged of the top six finalists. "Every one of them thoroughly entertained me and reminded me of how lucky I am to be a songwriter." There are few clips here and there with Shania: First sitting at the table with a glass of wine in hand next to Fred; then briefly commenting on the inspiration for the clothes; then winning a bid for the auction they do during the dinner (she won a Meditation workshop), then happily dancing with Fred. Shania is the 3rd Best Selling Female Artist of the SoundScan era. • 6/4/10 Shania To Attend Prince William's Wedding? According to an article in the Toronto Sun, Star magazine is reporting Shania will attend the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Speculation is that they could get married this month. The current edition of Star, a supermarket magazine, has “exclusive, jaw-dropping” details of the impending nuptials, even a photo of Kate trying on a wedding dress. Estimated wedding cost: $40 million, to be split by the family and British taxpayers. Kate will arrive in a glass coach pulled by four horses, at St. Paul’s Cathedral. That’s where Wills’ mom, the sainted Diana, married ol’ whatzisname. A: There's no news on the album front, according to her record label, but Twain raised her profile recently through her well-received stint as a judge on "American Idol." Twain, 44, reassured her fans that she hasn't given up on music via a note she wrote from the Caribbean and posted on her website in February: “Many of the songs from The Woman In Me and Come On Over were written in the tropics, so it's a good place for me to be creative.”

From CMT: George Strait, Taylor Swift and Shania Twain have earned top certifications from the RIAA for music released between 2000 and 2009. Strait ranked first for the most gold and platinum certifications with a total of 29. Swift topped the list of the most digital song certifications with a total of 25. Her "Love Story" also tied with Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" for highest-certified digital song by a female artist. It reached quadruple platinum for 4 million paid downloads. Twain's 2002 album, Up!, was the highest-certified album by a female artist at 11-times platinum, signifying 11 million units shipped. The only other artists to achieve that many platinum certifications are the groups *NSYNC, with No Strings Attached, and Outkast's Speaker Boxxx/The Love Below. which both also had album sales in excess of 11 million. Usher had the highest-certified platinum album for a male artist, with more than ten million albums sold. In addition, the Eagles were recognized for having the most total certifications, with 48, including cumulative album, digital song, master ringtone and music video certifications. • 1/20/10 'American Idol' + Shania = Huge Ratings! From Media Week: A one-hour version of "American Idol" with Shania serving as guest judge stood well above the competition, with a 16.6 rating/24 share at 8 p.m. Comparably, and completely unprecedented, was growth for "Idol" over the year-ago telecast (12.5/18 on Jan. 20, 2009) of 33 percent. Never in the history of television has a veteran season nine series posted gains this large from the year-ago period. That led into a repeat of the pilot of "Human Target," which finished third at 9 p.m. with a 5.8/ 9.

***1/7 Update: During this morning's interview Shania talked about growing up poor and having to alternate paying the different monthly bills. They'd go without heat one month, phone the next, etc.. They were eligible for welfare but her father refused. Then she about "American Idol" and its impact on discovering young talent. Lastly, Shania said she started a charity program called "Shania Kids Can" which helps underprivileged kids and also gives them a place to go to help discover their own talent. Shania will host "The Current" tomorrow (Friday) morning and interview the Queen of Jordan
